![]() ![]() ![]() Unlike Dark Souls 3 which they did release a patch for, Bloodborne’s code is very different. This could be the reason why From Software never patched the game to run at 60 FPS on the PS4 Pro. So in short, while the Bloodborne runs at 60 FPS with the patch, the actual movement and animations don’t tie into the higher frames. It works alright (about as good as the Dark Souls 3 PS4 Pro patch does) except for the fact that the game doesn’t have proper timing and the entire game basically runs in fast-forward. This is due to the game logic being tied to a lower frame rate. Even though Bloodborne technically runs at 60 FPS through the patch on the regular PS4, it does not appear to make a difference. Since Sony is yet to officially patch PlayStation 4 exclusive Bloodborne with 60 frames-per-second support, well-known modder Lance McDonald has now released his unofficial update on his Patreon page. Read: The Last of Us Part II is Back on Sale on The PlayStation Store Famous modder Lance McDonald has patched Bloodborne to run at 60 FPS on the regular PS4 console. This means no support for the PS4 Pro’s more-powerful CPU or increases the frame rate on the standard PS4. ![]() This means that From Software might never go back and patch the game. McDonald speculates that Sony probably has some sort of Bloodborne project – be it PC port, PlayStation 5 remaster, or remake/sequel – although he doesn’t seem to have any evidence for that. Although according to McDonald, Japan Studio were working on a PC version of the game before they were unceremoniously shut down. This only deepens the mystery as to why Sony didn’t do this the second the PlayStation 5 was released. According to him, ‘Sony can do it at any time they like without From’s support.’ I’ve seen it.Īccording to McDonald though that isn’t true and there are ‘zero technical barriers’ preventing a 60fps upgrade or a PC version. Japan Studio had a build of the game that was running on Windows 7 when they were shut down and Sony likely still has that build sitting in their archives, as well as all the source for it. Writing in a short thread on Twitter, McDonald has reiterated that Sony has all it needs to get Bloodborne on PS4 updated, or to produce a PS5/PC port or remake. Other commentators, including the recently humbled Jeff Grubb, have suggested that the code for the game is ‘problematic’ and so ‘messy’ that only From could create an update – and they’re too busy with Elden Ring.Ī 60fps patch for the PS4 version is 2 lines of code that need changing. Lance McDonald has made a name for himself hacking apart games like Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, P.T., and NieR:Automata in order to find hidden secrets and cut content, so he definitely knows his way around the game. Given Sony just bought shares in FromSoftware that seems to rule out the idea of any kind of bad blood, as it were, and now a respected member of the From fan community has debunked the idea that the game would require too much effort to upgrade. Unlike many other PlayStation 4 exclusives it’s never received any PlayStation 5 updates or 60fps patches, which seems especially strange because one of its few flaws is its occasionally wobbly frame rate and long load times.Ĭreating a patch, or announcing a remaster or PC version, seems such a no-brainer, especially in light of developer FromSoftware’s success with Elden Ring, that many have begun to assume there’s been some sort of technical problem and/or a falling out with Sony. The games industry is full of mysteries and weird business decisions but one of the strangest of recent years is the way Sony has treated Bloodborne – arguably (especially by us) the best PlayStation 4 exclusive ever made. Bloodborne – why is Sony ignoring it? (pic: Sony)Īn expert has claimed Sony could create a PS5 update for Bloodborne ‘any time they like’ but there’s still no clue as to why they don’t. ![]()
